Before food every goes into your mouth, you devour it with your eyes. We tend to get more nutrition and feel more satisfied if food looks good. There are a number of ways that we can eat with our eyes, and fool our stomach into feeling more full on fewer calories.

Use garnishes and spices to make food look appetizing. Put some fruit, and cinnamon and maple syrup on your healthy but dull looking oatmeal. Twist a lemon beside poached fish and sprinkle with a little bit of dill or parsley. It lifts the taste to eat something that is attractively served.

Eat with your eyes, fool yourself. Put your food on a smaller plate. It looks amazingly full and you get more satisfaction with fewer calories. Arrange the food in a pleasing way to make you relish the flavor and textures of it. Use pretty dishes, and enjoy the entire presentation.

Fool your eyes, eat foods that have larger volume for their calories. Foods that are whipped, puffed, or filled with moisture make the meal look bigger. One ounce of shredded cheese looks much bigger than the same amount in small cubes.

Satisfy your eyes and your appetite will be satisfied, too.
